1 Hour - Tips riveted on

I took all of the clecos out of the tips today. It all looked pretty good, so I decided to go ahead and rivet the tips on. VS first. It looked pretty good, but it appears to be just the slightest bit crooked (looking from the front it seems to tilt oh-so-slightly). This may just be an optical illusion from the not-centered seam on the tip, but we'll just have to see how it works out. Even if it is a little crooked, it is so little that it'll never be noticed...

Then I riveted the elevator tips on. They went on very nicely except for the rivets near the trailing edge. The first one goes in just fine, but then the one on the opposite side can't go in far enough to be pulled. This was solved by using the normal CS4-4 on one side and using a MK-319-BS on the other. That other rivet is just a little too small for this hole/dimple, but it gets a good grip and seems to fit OK, so it'll just get covered up by epoxy filler later when I'm filling the tip to skin area for a perfect fit.

After clecoing on the HS tips, I noticed that they didn't match the elevator tips perfectly. This seems to be able to be partially remedied by squeezing the top and bottom of the elevator tip together. That way the top and bottom get closer to matching the HS tip, and the outside edge also bulges out when you do that and it lines up better as well. I'm still thinking about how to fix this. It may be doable by just working the elevator tip and using filler wisely on the HS tip. Or it may just be better for me to take out the HS tip end cap and make another one that matches better. We'll find out what I decide on shortly...
