1 Hour - The elevator filling and sanding continues

More of the same today. Sand off the cured filler, and add some more in the few depressions left. I also put a large bead of very thick (it looked like soft-serve ice cream) filler on the front. I want to get a nice square edge there, as I've seen pics and the squared edges look very nice. So I overbuilt it and will sand it of to the right shape later. I've found that I like taking off the majority of the excess with the oribital sander and 150 grit paper. Then I'll go over it with the hand block and 220 grit.

I'm starting to think that I'll probalby be painting my plane. I toyed with the idea of leaving it aluminum, but after working with this fiberglass and filler, I've decided that I can probably get a MUCH nicer and smoother finish if I fill and sand over all the rivet lines and then paint over that. I think that if I have the patience and ambition, it can probably be made to be nearly impossible to see any of the rivets under the paint... I'll think about that some more before making my final decision, so we'll have to wait and see.
