4 Hours - Tiedown brackets and spacers

I started the day by installing the 4 nutplates I didn't get in the big nutplate adventure the last couple days. Countersink, alodine, and rivet. It went pretty quickly. Here's the two on the right spar.

Here's the spacers I fabricated from aluminum bar included in the kit. I ended up breaking my fly cutter on the first one while trying to cut the 1 inch lightening hole. It was kinda a piece of crap anyways, and I figured I would have trouble with it.. I looked around and I had some paddle bits for cutting holes in wood, and they looked fairly similar to the edge on the flycutter so I figured I'd give it a try. Surprisingly it worked quite well. And it still looks healthy enough to use again in the future. :)

So I match drilled all the spacers and tiedown brackets to the spar. It went well, and then I had to drill the nutplate holes in the brackets and spacers. That didn't go so well, but it should be fine. I've seen little nutplate drill guide tools. And that's what I really needed here. It was kinda tough to get the nutplate nice and square and not move around while trying to drill the attach holes. So some ended up a little crooked, but it the bolts will still go in nicely and the nutplates should rivet on fine, too, so it's good enough. This will be well hidden inside the wing so out of sight, out of mind. :)
