Today began with a whole bunch of edge deburring on all the rear spar parts. Also the inboard spar doublers had to be trimmed. The trimming and deburring is what took the most time today. Then it was on to clecoing and clamping the parts to the rear spar to match drill all the holes. And cutting the aileron push tube hole in the center doubler. Finally, I had to do some more interpreting of Van's instruction. They specify "machine countersinking" the outboard spar doubler for the 4 outboard rib rivets. The problem is that the doubler is only .040 thick and AD4 rivets have to have a thickness of .050 to machine countersink. So I dimpled the doubler and I'm still thinking about whether I'll dimple the spar and the rib, or just countersink the spar. I think the right answer is to dimple both, but I'll think about that some more. So I finished all the initial prep work on the left rear spar, and I'll do the right tomorrow. It should go a little quicker as all the deburring is done already and I won't have to sit and ponder the outboard doubler...
In all my thinking and using the benches for working on the rear spars, by right spar became a table of sorts... Quite convenient until it comes time to do some work on it. :)
